Bio
Coming from Castellammare di Stabia (NA) with a profound passion for Science and Engineering, Pietro Califano achieved his BSc in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Naples Federico II in 2021. Subsequently, he started the MSc in Space Engineering at Polytechnic of Milan, where he was also involved as AOCS team member and leader within the PoliSpace 6S cubesat project since December 2021. In 2023, he undertook a 6-month internship at ESA ESTEC working at the Hera Mission GNC. During this period, he developed his thesis with title "HERA mission trajectory safety assessment through on-board failure detection", dealing with Navigation around small bodies. Pietro joined DARTLab in December 2023 as Ph.D. student. His primary research interests span autonomous navigation, VIO/SLAM, estimation in robotics applications and Statistics, leaning toward Machine Learning. One of his favourite quotes is from Richard Feynman: "Study hard what interest you the most in the most undisciplined, irriverent and original manner possible."
